Chapter 1
Preface: For Teachers
This book is designed to support teachers in building respectful, thoughtful, and socially aware students.
Each lesson focuses on a single, clear social skill that children can understand, discuss, and practice. The lessons are intentionally short and direct so they can be added easily to an existing school day without disrupting academic instruction.
Teachers may choose to use:
- One lesson per day as part of morning meeting or homeroom
- One lesson per week paired with discussion and practice
- Individual lessons as needed to address classroom behavior or social challenges
Because each lesson stands on its own, they may be taught in order or selected based on the needs of the class.
The lessons are written to encourage:
- Classroom discussion
- Real-world examples
- Reflection and practice
The goal is not perfection, but progress. These lessons help students learn how their behavior affects others and how small choices can improve the classroom environment.
